Crusaders looked the more likely winners but have to settle for a point Match report by Ron Tarry

Honours were even at Twerton Park after a close game, although we looked likely winners after Jon Boardman had given us the lead with just over 20 minutes to go, but the home side fought back to level the scores and we had to be content with a point to end a memorable year at this level. To remain in 8th. place, still in reach of the play-offs is immense credit to Bobby and his team and we start the new Year with confidence.
The first half was a dull affair with neither side prepared to commit men forward so that the game was mostly fought out in midfield although Max O’Leary did well to push a Nat Jarvis header past the post following a free-kick from James Clark.
After the interval the game did open up and Mike Jones almost intercepted a back pass as we pushed forward, but George Legg came out well to cut out a long ball through the middle and was able to relax as Nick McCootie shot well over the bar. We brought on all three subs midway through the half and soon took the lead when the home defenders failed to clear a long throw and Jon Boardman was there to nod the ball past O’Leary in the 69th. minute.
Alan O’Brien got away on the left but his cross was behind the forwards and the danger was cleared, but although we now looked the better side Bath came back strongly and brought a great save from Legg as he pushed the ball over for a corner but . when McCootie got clear on the right, he turned the ball inside and Andey Watkins was there to slide the ball past Legg after 76 minutes.
Near the end, Ian Herring chased back to bring down a home player after our attack had broken down and provoked a melee in which a dozen players were involved with Herring being pushed over. There might have . been a red card or two, but the referee settled for two yellows and a free-kick which was easily cleared.
Team;Legg, Tyler, Jones, Boardman, Day, Luke wIlliams, Clark , Herring, Jarvis(Manny Williams),Goodger(Brown), Soares(O’Brien) Subs;Bignall, Rees.

Some supporters missed the match due to a van fire and the closure of the M4, but got back to listen to an excellent commentary on Radio Bath. .
