Although we had to make a late change when Diak John was injured in the warm-up, we just had the edge in a closely-fought first half and led 1-0 at the interval, but again failed to hold on to the advantage, the Terras equalising less than 2 minutes after the restart, eventually winning by the odd goal to go above us in the league table.
Although it was a near-perfect autumn day, there was a chill in the breeze as a crowd of well over 400 saw an entertaining game. Kelvin Bossman was penalised for the challenge when he tried to get on the end of a through ball
and then brought a good save from Jason Mathews, but we kept up the pressure and scored after 16 minutes when Mike Jones won a corner and Nat Jarvis scored from the flag kick. Stefan Brown headed wide from a James Clark free-kick, but was in any case given offside, whllst Bossman was obviously struggling with a dead leg, but continued after treatment. We looked solid at the back and the home side created few chances as we deserved our half-time lead , but we were under pressure soon after the re-start and the Terras equalised with 2 minutes when we defended poorly and allowed full-back Mark Cooper to knock the ball in at the far post. It was now the home side who did the pressing and they took the lead with a well-taken goal after 57 minutes, Adam Kelly finishing off a good move which opened up the way to goal.
Bossman still struggled and went off in a triple substitution midway through the second half, but we were still unable to make a real impact, although, near the end, Harry Goodger’s attempt spun off his foot to Stefan Brown, who was unable to bring the ball under control and his shot screwed wide, and Mark Draycott was just off target with a free-kick in the closing minutes as the home side held on to the points.
