Despite the dreadful conditions, the pitch held up impressively well and allowed both sides to play with intent.
Manager Danny Robinson injected youthful energy into the starting lineup, handing Cam Squires his full league debut. However, the Crusaders were forced into an early reshuffle when captain Rhys Tyler was withdrawn after just five minutes, with Andreo Brandao slotting in at right wing‑back.
Clear chances were scarce in a cagey first half. Gosport’s Kayak Tshaka came closest when his driven effort flashed narrowly wide midway through the period. Hungerford responded late on, with Charlie Austin glancing a header just past the near post in stoppage time.
The second half belonged to Hungerford. Five minutes after the restart, Kyle Tooze broke the deadlock in emphatic fashion, lashing a powerful left‑footed strike into the roof of the net. The goal lifted the home side, who continued to press with confidence.
Their persistence paid off on the hour mark. Tooze and Brandao combined superbly on the counterattack, releasing Carter Bowdery, whose fierce effort proved too strong for Gosport goalkeeper Henry Blackledge. The finish doubled Hungerford’s lead and effectively sealed the points.
Ewan Lynch almost made it three with fifteen minutes to go but his goal bound effort was just tipped around the post by Blackledge to deny the striker his first Hungerford goal.
Hungerford managed the remainder of the match with composure, securing a morale‑boosting win and a clean sheet in testing conditions.
