The only change from the opening day defeat at Farnham for the Crusaders was Zach Kotwica in for Brad Hooper. The former made his full debut for the side.
In the opening minutes a Louis McGrory corner was flicked on and nearly fell to Ty Duffus at the back post but just evaded the on rushing centre back.
After that the away side looked to take control and pushed forward but it was not until a mix up between Curtis Angell and Luke Cairney on 17 minutes that they took the lead Obieri taking full advantage by nipping in between the two of them and finishing easily. Another player who had the briefest of spells at Hungerford scoring against them.
This at least seemed to stir Hungerford into life and more on the front foot. Harry Williams saw his header on 30 minutes brilliantly saved by Thompson in Gloucester city’s goal. Williams and James Ollis beginning to cause problems for the Gloucester back line.
Just before the break another top draw save by the Tigers keeper keep the scores level. Ollis this time with the chance after being played in by Williams. His powerful shot turned around the post by the impressive Thompson.
The second half started with Hungerford still on the front foot. An unlikely penalty claim for handball in the Gloucester box was turned away before Thompson again produced a classy save this time preventing Williams.
A minute or so later Hungerford conceded again. A Gloucester ball was hung up toward the far post several defenders did not deal with it Gloucester’s Leadbitter headed the ball back across goal and Ben Morgan took full advantage to head home. Another disappointing goal conceded for the home team now two down.
Despite this Hungerford still looked dangerous going forward and it had only been a brilliant display from Thompson that had kept them out so far. On 73 minutes though he was helpless to prevent a Hungerford goal. McGrory’s cross finding Ollis who headed into the goal leaving Thompson rooted to the spot.
A deserved goal for Hungerford’s endeavor and it was the home side that looked like they might equaliase. George Smith who had a brilliant night in midfield had a couple of efforts on goal one easily saved and one just wide.
Substitute Conor McDonagh then brought the ball down in the area and whip a brilliant ball across the six yard line alas there was no one there to finish. Finally Brad Hooper had a free kick charged down by a wall that was creeping ever closer to him by the time he took the strike.
In the end Hungerford were punished for two defensive errors, which those two chances apart Cairney had little to do all evening. Jared Thompson had a brilliant night at the other end to keep Hungerford to just one goal.
