After a dearth of league games( it has been two months since we had a home league game), during which we have slipped down the league, it was very satisfying to witness this solid performance which saw us convincing winners at Biggleswade. The pitch was very heavy, but perfectly playable, thanks to the efforts of the home ground staff , whose hard work ensured that the game was on.
There was little of note in the opening minutes, although Diak John overlapped down the wing before shooting wide and Inih Effiong’s shot was blocked when he picked up a misplaced pass.
However, we began to get a grip of the game and took the lead midway through the half when Max York punched a dangerous cross out to Stefan Brown (pictured) who promptly volleyed home. However it was not long before a corner half-cleared to Ian Rees. who drove the ball back past Paul Strudley to make it 1-1.We continued to look dangerous and when John raced down the wing and sent over a good cross,Brown was there to hit home a first-time shot.We always looked comfortable after the interval and Strudley was seldom threatened and increased the lead when Brown’s low cross saw Rhys Tyler perfectly placed to slide the ball past York in the home goal and we were never in danger thereafter. Some tricky ball-play from substitute Mike Jones opened up the home defence for Tyler to make it 4-1 after 86 minutes to complete a comfortable victory which saw us climb a place back towards the play-offs.
