It was good to get back to winning ways after a miserable run of 8 games without a victory. Not only that, but it was achieved in the most difficult of circumstances, with no less than three suspensions and, to make matters worse, Stefan Brown broke down in the warm up and took no part in the game. Although Bedworth are near the bottom of the league, they have shown improved form recently and everything pointed to a close game.
The first half-hour was fairly even although debutant Garyn Preen made a promising start on the wing and keeper Denham Hinds punched out his cross to Scott Rees who volleyed well over the bar. We took the lead from Preen’s cross after 27 minutes, Nat Jarvis driving the ball into the roof the net. A splendid run from Rhys Tyler ended with a perfect cross for Jarvis to make it 2-0 with a great header after 38 minutes and within a minute, Preen was in the right position to score our third goal with a well-placed shot.
We have so often conceded goals early in the second half that the supporters were on tenterhooks, but they had nothing to worry about, for Matt Collins headed in from a free-kick only 2 minutes after the re-start to make it 4-0 and Preen’s shot from a narrow angle was bundled in by Jarvis after 58 minutes to complete his hat-trick and make it a nap-hand for us.
Bedworth did not give up and battled on to the end, Gordon Archer heading in from a corner and Shane Gore had to pull off a fantastic save to keep out a shot from Kyle Cartwright who had burst through the middle, but we held on without any further problems to complete a convincing win which put us up to 7th.place in the league,
