The game was really overshadowed by an official making a slew of decisions that in the main went against the home side including a double yellow card for skipper Rhys Tyler for two innocuous first half challenges
In a strong Hungerford start James Dobson was heavily involved when he put a Tyler cross over the bar and then saw his corner scrambled away from under the crossbar. Dobson then took a free kick which was parried away as far as Louis McGrory who perhaps took one touch too many giving Supermarine a chance to block on the line via keeper Luke Parnell.
Henry Spalding looped an effort towards goal on 15 minutes but it was easily saved before Elis Watts beat two defenders to see his shot well saved again by the busy Parnell
After 30 minutes the madness started with it seemed with every challenge a yellow card was produced, Dobson, Berry-Hargreaves, Tyler and McGrory all found themselves in the book in the space of 5 minutes. Marine realising this was happening certainly encouraging his decisions
Just before half time and much to the shock of the majority Tyler was sent off for a second yellow when it appeared that he didn’t actually attempt to make a tackle indeed he actually backed away from it knowing he was on a yellow card.
This was a game changing moment as now Hungerford would have to play against a good on the ball Marine side for a half, a man down for their second 90 minutes in 72 hours
Hungerford had to be more defensive in the second half but the game pattern continued, Babs Jarra was hit by a late challenge possibly worse than any that had received a yellow card, but he did not receive even a free kick! The Hungerford bench were now at boiling point and were also added to the referee’s notebook, his afternoon’s quiddling continuing. Jarra eventually had to leave the pitch with the knock from the challenge
Despite the Marine possession there was still a threat on the break for the home side, Watts and Ramarni Medford-Smith both had shots at goal again well saved by Purnell
With just over 10 to go a tiring Hungerford conceded an inevitable goal. Michael Fernandes with a good run and finish into the bottom corner the former Crusader wheeled away with a big celebration.
Anton Dworzak got Marine’s second in injury time a blockbuster from 25 yards, but the game really ended late in the first half, with the bank holiday bookings no one wanted to see!
