Hungerford Town produced a dramatic late comeback to secure their place in the next round of the Emirates FA Cup, overturning a first-half deficit to defeat Wokingham Town and set up a tie with Wells City.

On a difficult, uneven playing surface, it was the hosts who adapted quickest and enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges. Wokingham's bright start was rewarded after 19 minutes when Aaron Peprah-Baah reacted sharply to a cleverly-worked corner routine to fire the home side into the lead. The scorer's evening was cut short soon afterwards, however, as he was forced off following a concussion suffered in an earlier challenge.

The Crusaders gradually began to gain a foothold in the contest and finished the first half strongly. Brad Smith delivered a series of dangerous corners into the Wokingham penalty area, but despite increasing pressure, Hungerford were unable to create a clear opportunity before the interval.

Recognising the need for greater attacking threat, the management team introduced Sheldon Wright at half-time, with the winger immediately providing additional pace and width. Wright quickly tested Jake Simpson with Hungerford's first effort on target of the evening, although the goalkeeper was equal to the task at his near post.

As the second half progressed, Hungerford's control of the game grew. Fraser Bell went close just after the hour mark, finding the side netting as the visitors continued to push forward in search of an equaliser.

Their reward arrived with 13 minutes remaining. Wright collected possession on the edge of the area and, although his strike appeared slightly miscued, the ball squeezed beyond the grasp of Simpson and into the net to level the scores at 1-1.

The equaliser injected fresh belief into the Crusaders and with Wokingham beginning to tire, Hungerford sensed an opportunity to win the tie. Ben Stallard came close moments later, firing narrowly over the crossbar as the pressure mounted.

Just when extra time appeared inevitable, Hungerford found the decisive moment deep into stoppage time. Wright raced clear of the defence, rounded Simpson and steered his effort towards the far corner. Despite desperate attempts from Wokingham defenders to prevent the ball crossing the line, the ball found the net and sparked jubilant celebrations among players and supporters alike.

The dramatic winner completed an impressive comeback and ensured Hungerford's FA Cup journey continues, with Wells City awaiting in the next round.
