For the first time since the 1970's Hungerford Town faced the Kuwait national team in a behind closed doors game at Bisham Abbey. Kuwait, ranked 156th in the world, won the match in the second half thanks to a Faisal Ajab goal.
The Crusaders made a bright start with a James Rusby half volley forcing the Kuwaiti goalkeeper into a good stretching save. Striker James Constable then had the ball in the net but saw his header ruled out for offside. Just a minute later, Constable saw another header well saved as Town searched for the opening goal. Kuwait were providing a stern test so right back Marcus Johnson-Schuster tried his luck from long range, seeing the effort pushed away. Constable was a handful for the Kuwaiti defence and had a third opportunity to score but saw a shot blocked in front of goal.
Ian Herring changed his side for the second half to give more players minutes under their belts before the upcoming season. However, the changes yielded no reward. Instead the only chance of the second half saw Ajab round George Legg and pass the ball home to give Kuwait the win. It was a well worked goal but harsh on the Crusaders who gave a good account of themselves, especially in the first half.
