Our first appearance in this season’s F.A.Cup was a low-key affair which seldom came to life, but just as it looked as if Mark Draycotts’s goal would earn us a place in the next round, a last-minute own goal gave Bradford the reprieve that that their efforts deserved and the two clubs will meet again at Bradfotrd-on-Avon on Wednesday evening to decide on a place in the next round.
We started well and had most of the play, but the final pass often went astray, although Jamie Bartlett in the Bradford goal pulled off a stunning save to punch the ball over the bar and the resulting corner was scrambled away, whilst at the other end, Diak John blocked a dangerous attack, but from the resultant breakaway, Alan O’Brien’s cross went tamely straight into the goalkeeper’s hands .
Bradford began to get into the game, but neither side could produce a decisive attack as the game became a midfield slog
Neikell Plummer had a chance for the visitors early in the second half, but volleyed well over the bar, but neither side seemed able to build up a serious attack, the ball being given away all too often. However, after 73 minutes, having brought on all three subs, they combined to give us the lead. James Clark fed Kelvin Bossman and his low cross was converted by Draycott from close range. With few real chances until then, this goal looked decisive
and Bossman had the chance to make sure of the victory as he broke clear, but a defender got back and just did enough to put him off balance and he screwed the ball wide.
It was not all over however for in the last minute Ibrahima Sarr’s free kick saw James Rusby attempting to head the ball away, but he only succeeded in heading it past Paul Strudley to bring the game to a disappointing end.
