Uhlsport Hellenic League Round-Up

User 5128016 Oct 2011 - 09:59

In the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division on Saturday, Abingdon Town faced a resurgent Reading Town and were unable to contain them, shipping four without reply courtesy of a Ray Spence hat-trick and one from Phil John.

Bracknell Town were given a real drubbing by current leaders Flackwell Heath, conceding eight times through Danny Jordan, Harry Pritchard, Adam Harman, Riccardo Cannon with a late brace and Lee Thompson with a hat-trick, before Tom Barrett managed a wonder strike for the hapless home side shortly before the final whistle.

Cheltenham Saracens were two-up at the break thanks to a Troy Wood pair against Ascot United, Jon Bennett then got one back for the Yellamen, but Lorcan Sheehan made the result safe for the Saras after converting a penalty kick.

Strugglers Fairford Town lost an entertaining encounter with Ardley United by the odd goal in five.

On target for the hosts were Nathan Gambling and Dan Bailey and for the victorious visitors, Scott Bridges and Andy Stidder with an own goal making the total.

Highworth Town won a close encounter with Wantage Town in a game which saw the Worthians take a two-goal lead in a minute through Ryan Thomas and TJ Bohane just after the break, both sides were then reduced to nine-men, the Alfredians got one back direct from a Richard Claydon free-kick and the hosts hung on to the lead despite 7 minutes of extra-time being played!

Kidlington were leading at the break, thanks to a Ryan Curtin brace sandwiching a Steve Ryan reply for Wokingham & Emmbrook.

Ashley Mitchell equalised 30 minutes into the second period and Gary Sargeant then hit the winner for the Sumas shortly after.

In-form Shortwood United took a second half lead through Kevin Slack against Holyport, but the Villagers snatched an unlikely point when Jamie Handscomb equalised in added time to bring the Wood’s ten-game winning streak to an end.

Shrivenham took the points from Witney Town, scoring twice in the second half thanks to Arron Maximen and Steve Robertson.

Thame United succumbed to the high flying Binfield after conceding three times without reply courtesy of Carl Davies, Nick Bateman and Jack Tallentire.

This win puts the Moles into second place in the table behind the rampant Heathens.

In Division One West, Cirencester Town 'Dev' had Conor Teague to thank for a well-earned victory over form team Wootton Bassett Town when he hit the target with the only goal of the game well into the second period.

Malmesbury Victoria were overrun by Headington Amateurs, despite a Mark Field pair for the hosts. Jay Hill, Ollie Zaja and Luke Cuff also with a pair, did the damage for the visitors.

New College Swindon were unable to contain Cricklade Town and were two down in a minute early in the first period through Alex Povey and Ben Carter.

Dan Hall’s late goal made certain that the College were not going to get anything from this game.

Winterbourne United took the lead through Ben Walker against second placed Tytherington Rocks, but then conceded five times through Jason Wood, Jack Smyth, Tim Baker and Stuart Nelson with two spot kicks, before a late rally saw Daryl Smith and then Kieran Williams attempt to close the gap but without success in this eight-goal thriller.

In Division One East, County Cup commitments reduced the league programme to just one fixture and Rayners Lane took advantage of this, by beating Abingdon United Reserves after going down to a Ryan Macer effort after 38 minutes.

An own goal and a Lawrence Yaku brace were enough to take the points for the Lane and this places them at the top of the division ahead of Chalfont Wasps on goal difference.
