The Reserves make the long trip to Wembley to face South Kilburn in the league

Matt Robinson15 Oct 2010 - 08:37

Garry Cook has a full squad to choose from when he travels to South Kilburn on Saturday.

Cook has already stated that starting from last weekend he expects nothing less than 9 points in his next three matches.

Already gaining 3 points from their victory away to Finchampstead last week they are well on their way.

South Kilburn will be a tricky tie, it's the longest journey that Town have in their season, they are always a strong physical side, However free scoring Hungerford will renain confident after Kilburn poor start to the season.

History

Formed in 2005, South Kilburn F.C. joined the Middlesex County Football League in season 2005-2006. Despite finishing third from bottom in the Cherry Red Books MCFL Division One, the inaugural season was a learning curve for the newly formed team. The disappointing league position did, however, provide a sound base for the club to develop from and set the stage for progression.

With a considerable amount of endeavor on and off the pitch, South Kilburn made great strides forward in season 2006-2007. Losing only four games all season, the club finished top of MCFL Division One and had good cup runs in a number of county cups. The success of 2006-2007 was replicated in 2007-2008 as the club exceeded its own high expectations in finishing second in the Cherry Red Books MCFL Premier Division. The league success was supported by two good cup runs as South Kilburn reached the semi-final of The Alec Smith Premier Division Cup and narrowly lost 2-1 in the final of the London County FA Junior Cup.

The runners up league position allowed South Kilburn to make the jump up to the Hellenic League and Step 6 on the non-league football pyramid. Last season, South Kilburn finished a very respectable sixth in the Hellenic Division One East. This will now be used as a springboard to push further on up the league this year.

After a successful stint at Broadfields Country Club, South Kilburn have now moved grounds to Vale Farm Sports Centre in Wembley. Extensive work to meet the ground grading requirements has taken place at the ground throughout the summer and the club now looks forward to welcoming all of this seasons opponents to our new home.
