Terras, City & Steelmen Are 100%

Terras, City & Steelmen Are 100%

Matt Robinson15 Aug 2014 - 11:20

Weymouth, Cambridge City and Corby Town are the only three teams left with a 100 per cent record after Tuesday night`s.....

.....second round of matches in the Southern League Premier Division.

The Terras beat Frome Town 4-2 in front of a crowd of 717 at the Wessex Stadium.

Jamie Laird gave the hosts an 11th minute lead that Kris Miller cancelled out from the penalty spot just before half-time.

Adam Kelly restored the Terras` lead 10 minutes into the second period and then Stewart Yetton added a third on 69 minutes.

Mark Francis reduced the arrears 3 minutes later, but George Rigg ensured victory with a fourth with 7 minutes to go.

Cambridge won 2-0 at the Armadillo Stadium against Arlesey Town, courtesy of a brace from Andrew Phillips after 33 and 45 minutes.

Corby also won away – 2-1 at newly-promoted Dunstable Town, who had taken a first-minute lead through Chris Marsh.

Greg Mills equalised from the spot 2 minutes before half-time and then Paul Malone won it for the Steelmen with a goal 6 minutes into the second half.

At the opposite end, Burnham, Bideford and Banbury United are yet to get off the mark.

Burnham were hammered 5-1 at The Gore by a rampant Dorchester Town

Veteran Nick Crittenden stole the show as the 35-year-old winger hit a hat-trick to help the Magpies clinch their first points of the season.

Ben Joyce had given the county town side the lead in the first minute before Dan Cann and a double from Crittenden had earned a four-goal lead inside 24 minutes.

The hosts did hit back before the break to close the deficit through Jon Munday, but Crittenden sealed his treble on the hour-mark.

It was almost as bad for Bideford, who suffered a 6-2 defeat at the Corinium Stadium to newly-promoted Cirencester Town.

Bideford were thrashed 6-2 at Cirencester Town in the Southern League Premier Division this evening.

Despite taking the lead with an early penalty from Richard Groves, the Robins were taken apart by Ciren.

Two goals each from Matt Liddiard, Nat Jarvis and Leigh Henry gave the home side their first win of the season.

Bideford, who lost defender Matt Villis with a head injury midway through the first half, could only manage a late consolation from Sean Downing.

New-look Banbury went down to a 3-0 home defeat to Hitchin Town.

Mark Smith gave the Canaries a 25th minute lead that Simon Martin doubled on 38 minutes.

Robbie Burns completed victory with the third 20 minutes from time.

Truro City are off the mark with a 2-1 success at promoted Paulton Rovers where veteran striker Barry Hayles bagged a brace in the 35th and 45th minutes, sandwiched by a Nick McCootie reply on 41 minutes from the spot.

The remaining matches ended all-square.

New-look demoted Hereford United achieved their first point with a 2-2 draw at Edgar Street against newly-promoted Slough Town in front of decent crowd of 528.

It didn`t start well for the Bulls, however, as James Dobson gave the Rebels a first-minute lead.

But Gary O`Neill levelled on 25 minutes, only for Dobson to eventually restore the visitors lead midway through the second period.

Nathaniel Lewars though grabbed a last-gasp equaliser for Hereford.

Hungerford Town and Poole Town shared a 0-0 draw at Bulpit Lane, while Biggleswade Town and Histon drew 1-1 at the Carlsberg Stadium where Evan Key gave the Waders a 16th minute lead that Mateuz Kuzimski cancelled out with 12 minutes remaining.

But St Neots Town came back from 3-0 down to share the spoils with Chesham United at Meadow Park.

Spare a thought for Ryan Blake, who netted a hat-trick with goals in the 16th, 25th and 31st minutes to give the Generals their commanding lead.

Sub Nathan Frater started the comeback in the 55th minute and then Jay Davies hit an incredible 40-yard effort on 78 minutes, with Arthur Lee completing the comeback 8 minutes from time.
