Meet the management: Keith Pennicott-Bowen

Ciaran Morrison7 Jun 2020 - 16:17

A look at the clubs new management team

Pennicott-Bowen also follows Robinson from Thatcham as a first team coach. Bowes’ footballing career has spanned across 5 decades, playing as a tough tackling, box to box central midfield player enjoying the best part of 1000 senior football appearances across the Isthmian and Hellenic Leagues. He also made a cameo appearance for Thatcham at 50 years old and has played for the Hungerford veterans. Like the rest of his colleagues from Thatcham he fondly remembers the 2018 FA vase win. However, as a player his high point came when he played in the FA cup 1st round for Bracknell Town versus Lincoln City in the 2000/01 season.

What is your match day routine is there something you always have to do?
“Match day routine focus starts the minute either Thursday training or Saturday’s game finishes... be it evaluation discussion(s) with Dan & Darts regards players, injuries and upcoming opposition strengths and weaknesses... to ensuring that my personal kit and boots are clean and ready for action.”
“Also, match-day travel distances can vary, so mood dependent if driving I’ll usually get through 2-3 genres of music from Classical to Paul Weller to Centreforce FM “It’s Just got to be Funky”.
"If on a coach it’s reading a good book, snooze, read through pre-match notes, warm-up/down routines, watching movie outtakes say from Snatch, LS&4Smoking Barrels etc... "To finishing with some funky house music. Nutrition and being a former player remains important, however it now includes keeping a dugout bottle of water, flask of tea or coffee plus a chocolate bar or fruit pastilles in pocket for the bench.”

What are your ambitions with Hungerford, what would like to achieve?
“Ambitions and like to achieve can at times seem very different.”
“I’ve ambitions for HTFC to enjoy success within the National League.”
“I’ve a motto Work Hard - Play Hard.”
“We’re all aware of the challenge that lies ahead. We’re all just experiencing the biggest challenge for a generation which gives us all perspective.”
“So, as a 1st Team Coach and part of Dan’s Management Team and the assembled Squad of Players. Let’s embrace the challenges for the season ahead. Prepare as best possible, then be the best we/you can be to execute your talents, hard work, focus and desires to achieve success for the Chairman, Trustees, the Board and most importantly the Club Volunteers and Loyal Supporters.”

For fans who don't know you've got some history with Hungerford, you played for us during the 90s. Tell us about that.
“HTFC Manager Gerald ‘Cabbie’ Smith assisted by Norman Matthews with Jim Kelman coaching, all circa 94’ to 98’.”
“Playing in the Isthmian league. It was tough times at HTFC. Most teams were located in, around and north of the M25 against the likes of Bracknell, Ashford, Dorking, Banstead, Met Police, East Thurrock, Romford, Tilbury, Canvey Island up to Aveley Utd, Great Wakering, Wivenhoe and Wtham Town. The league wasn’t for the feint hearted, especially against the East London teams..!!”
“Cabbie‘approached me to join the club to strengthen his Centre Midfield. My profile was as a high energy box to box, win it, give it, easy player. Also, I didn’t mind a ferocious tackle or twenty..!! And for sure enjoyed the physical game and contact..!!”
“Cabbie and Stormin Norman were a great combination of quick thinking wit, passion and desire with Jim’s FA coaching input whenever he could prior another joining Coach Clive ? (apologies his surname escapes me..!)”
“Football gives us all great memories and lifelong friendships. At HTFC, I played alongside players, with whom the longer toothed Supporters I trust all remember such as Freddie Austin, Freddie Stephens, Dean Bailey, Tim North, Darren, Warren & Craig Angell, Ian Hobbs, Marcus Richardson, Mark Brown, Mal Ford, Simon Dobie, Jamie Matthews, Jason Brizzel, Nigel Trumper, Dave Leno, Micheal McNally, Dean Mildenhall, Andy Mintern, Nigel Thorne, Geoff Neville, Alex Eden, Alan Davies, Steve Thompson and Steve Puffett - Physio."
“Other familiar HTFC friends and faces either still at the club or whom I’ve seen on the terraces are President Ron Tarry, John Smyth, Ian Hall, Steve Skipworth, Luke, Ken Holmes, Dean Humphries, Simon Liddiard, Sid Webb, Macer Braidwood, David Ingram, Jim Gosling and a dear old friend, top supporter and top joker whom I need to track down is little Eddie..”
