The awards are intended to "promote good citizenship by recognising as role models those in our midst who, by actions and demeanour, have demonstrated exceptionally loyal service to the benefit of the town"
Ron has served Hungerford Town FC for over 60 years as Manager, Chairman and now president.
He was a town councillor for 28 years and served twice as Mayor between 1975 to 1978 and 1987 to 1988, during this second term he guided the town through the tragic events of the Hungerford shootings and was a regular on TV and radio.
Ron is a founder member of the Hungerford Probus Club and Hungerford Twinning Association. He is a keen member of the Old Firestation Charity and for many years served as Chairman of the Camburn Educational Trust.
Two other town stalwarts have also recieved the freedom of Hungerford award this year, Robert James for his tireless work for the Town and Manor and the Hocktide celebrations. Hugh Pihlens a GP for 35 years . Founder of the Historical Association and publisher of books on Hungerford history.
Hungerford Town FC would like to congratulate all three for thier awards and thier work for the town but in particular to our very own Ron Tarry who has done so much for the Club. A thouroughly well deserved award.
