Crusaders Land 'Times Rich List' Sponsor

On a damp Tuesday afternoon in Hungerford, a bright future was about to be solidified at Bulpit Lane. After well documented financial issues, the power behind the motto "Transparency, Community, and Sustainability" was brought to life. Set to arrive was a man who would be the club's highest profile sponsor in recent memory, and that man was Alfie Best

Alfie Best is the CEO of Wyldecrest Parks, Europe's largest residential park home operator. He was recently featured in the Sunday Times Rich List speaking on the growth of his empire, and his proud Romany heritage. His respected relationship with new Chairman Patrick Chambers is what drew him to place his Wyldecrest logo proudly on the front of the historic Hungerford Town FC shirt. "When Patrick called me, I was a little taken back he'd taken on that challenge" Best remarked as he recalled the first phone call with Patrick to discuss his vision at Hungerford Town. "He's given his heart and soul, and just through me talking to him, I can see how passionate he's become about it" Best went on to say about Chambers' first few months leading The Crusaders.

The newfound passion around the club is what drew Patrick into finding a high-profile sponsor and his delight that Best was now on-board was clear "Alfie's got the highest profile in our industry by some margin. After a humorous exchange about Best's recent appearance in the Sunday Times Rich List atop of a striking red and black Mercedes G-Wagon pick-up truck to which Best quipped "I missed that", Chambers continued "I gave Alfie a call, told him what I was doing and told him why I was doing it, told him I thought it was a good club for him to be getting involved in and thankfully, Alfie answered that call and agreed a 3-year sponsorship package".

A 3-year shirt deal may not seem like new territory in the National League South, but to a club on the rise like Hungerford it carries extra significance. On the drive toward true sustainability, an external sponsor is a big step in fulfilling the commitments both Chambers, and new Vice Chairman, Carl Reader, promised the Hungerford faithful when they took over at the end of last season. Reader was visibly pleased with the start of the sponsorship efforts since accepting the role and said "We're fairly unique in the National League, in that we have an external 3rd party who isn't the chairman chucking in a few quid". "The fact we have an external company prepared to commit to sponsorship is phenomenal for us. It helps keep us sustainable going forwards but it's just the first part of it. As a club, we need to have a number of sponsors and that's everyone from pitchside sponsors, and website sponsors, right the way through to stand sponsorship and ground naming".

The hard work continues over the summer, and Best wants to be more than a number on a balance sheet. When asked a about a potential visit to Bulpit Lane, Best insisted "I shall try and give up as much as my time as possible when it's available. I want to see the team play". Best claimed not to be an expert on football, but knows that the new era will produce a "feel good factor" from the supporters to the players, the players back to the supporters, with the club in the middle benefiting from it all.
