Hungerford beat Wantage Town three-nil in a friendly

Ahead of Saturdays league match at Dulwich Hamlet Hungerford cruised to a confidence boosting victory against Wantage Town. Ian Herring was also able to give playing time to all of his squad.

Inside the first three minutes Joe Tomlinson rattled the bar in a fast paced start from the hosts. Zidan Akers then forced Wantage keeper, and ex Crusader, Charlie McCready into a save resulting in a corner which an unmarked James Rusby headed home. Akers then caused problems once again down the flanks and forced McCready into another good stop. Matt Jones went close with a fierce strike from the edge of the box before Rusby headed over a Tomlinson cross at close range. Dan Bailey missed the best chance of the half with the goal at his mercy the midfielder smacked the post. Liam Ferdinand had another great chance to make it two but was denied by the goalkeeper.

Hungerford kept up the constant pressure in the second half with Conor Lynch coming close before converting a confidently taken penalty kick. Marcus Johson-Schuster created a chance for Kofi Halliday inside the penalty area but once again McCready made a good save. However the third was to come courtesy of a late deflected strike by Mike Jones.

Hungerford now turn their attentions to Dulwich Hamlet in the league on Saturday.
