Hungerford gave a good account of themselves but in the end were beaten by a superior side. Havant and Waterlooville are still unbeaten and Paul Doswells side remain the nearest challengers to top of the table Wealdstone. Ian Herring made three changes to side defeated at Billericay on Saturday. Dan Bailey came into midfield for George Smith, Matt Jones replaced Zidan Akers and Conor Lynch partnered James Constable as James Rusby dropped out of the squad due to injury.
Havant started on the front foot with Nicky Bailey's free kick palmed away by Adam Siviter. Ross Worner had to be alert at the other end to deny Matt Jones's powerful strike however the deadlock was to be breached by the home side inside seven minutes. Alfie Rutherford cut inside onto his right foot and tested Siviter with the rebound slotted home by Josh Taylor. Havant kept on pressing, in-between promising spells for the visitors, and soon got the second goal of the evening through Jonah Ayunga's strike. Siviter kept his side in the game with a reflex save to deny Dean Beckwith's close range attempt a minute after the second goal. Then with his first sight of goal Constable gave Hungerford a needed lifeline. Marcus Johnson-Schuster strided forward and cleverly picked out the striker who dispatched with aplomb into the bottom corner. Taylor and Bradley Tarbuck had good chances towards the end of the half but Havant couldn't get a third before the break.
The Hawks started bright searching instantly for the third goal. Tarbuck curled just past the post before Ayunga settled the scores with a simple tap in. Right back Benny Rhead nearly made it four as the hosts countered with such blistering pace. Knowing they needed two goals Hungerford came at Havant in the last quarter of the game and had a good spell of possession with Dan Bailey missing the best chance. Joe Tomlinson crossed to the midfielder making a late run into the box however Worner made a fingertip save. The resulting corner caused problems but came to no avail. Ayunga nearly added a fourth but was denied by the crossbar in added time.
Hungerford now move onto St Albans City on Saturday, 3PM kick off.
