Hungerford score five to smash Saints at Bulpit Lane

Hungerford produced a dominant performance to comfortably sweep aside a poor St Albans outfit at Bulpit Lane. The hosts were on top from start to finish in a feisty affair that could have seen one or two red cards for the visitors but those decisions ultimately didn't matter as the victory was only heading in one direction. The Crusaders made a good start with Danilo Orsi-Dadomo having a good chance inside the penalty area early on but shot straight at Dean Snedker. Michael Clark had the first attempt for the visitors skimming the woodwork with a header. That was a rare attack on the Hungerford goal as Snedker had to make a smart save down low to deny winger Darren Foxley from a free kick just minutes later. Orsi-Dadomo started the rout with a low strike catching out the goalkeeper after good wing play from Foxley to assist the striker. The hosts pressed hard for the second goal and Foxley provided it with a stunning free kick high into the roof of the net. Cameron Hargreaves skimmed the bar and Orsi-Dadomo had a good chance before the latter tucked home right on the stroke of half time. It was the goal that put the game out of reach and gave the Hertfordshire based side a mountain to climb after the break.

After the interval the Saints made an attacking start with Liam Sole testing the palms of Michael Luyambula. Snedker denied a fourth with a fantastic one handed save to deny Hargreaves one on one. Luyambula had to deny Sole once more after his deflected cross seemed to almost catch the goalkeeper out. However the Crusaders weathered that mini storm and soon moved back into the ascendancy when Marcus Johnson-Schuster forced the St Albans goalkeeper into another fine save before he smashed the cross bar but almost immediately it was four when Matt Jones fired in before Alfy Whittingham completed the nap hand with a deserved fifth for a decisive home win. On Ian Herrings first game since he announced his retirement from playing he would have been proud of the teams performance as they ended a three game winless streak to move outside the relegation zone. His side now travel to local rivals Chippenham town next weekend knowing an identical performance and result is required.
