The heavy rain which started at midday and continued throughout the match did not prevent a crowd of over four hundred from enjoying another close game with Bath City, as Max O’Leary saved a Stefan Brown penalty and the visitors twice came from behind to salvage a point.
An early attempt by Nat Jarvis was deflected behind off a defender but James Clark’s corner was cleared at the second attempt, whilst a long ball sent Naby Diallo away on the left but George Legg came quickly off his line to volley the ball clear. However, we took the lead after 30 minutes when Alan O’Brien broke clear on the left, and slipped across a good pass which was easily knocked in by Clark . Unfortunately it was not long before O’Brien, who was struggling with a hamstring problem was replaced by Louie Soares and we eased comfortably through to the interval still a goal ahead. We had the visitors under pressure at the start of the second half but, after a goalmouth scramble the visitors cleared the danger and levelled the scores after 56 minutes when Diabllo’s pass inside gave Nick McCootie the chance to beat Legg.
We soon had the chance to retake the lead when Luke Williams caused confusion in the Bath penalty area and earned us a penalty, but O’Leary dived full-length to his right to pull off a great save from Stefan Brown’s spot kick, but it was not long before we were ahead again as we scrambled the ball home in a goalmouth melee after 74 minutes following a Williams pass, Harry Goodger being credited with the goal which was eventually awarded to Nat Jarvis.
The lead did not last long, however, for Chas Hemmings came up from the back to power in a header from a corner kick after 77 minutes and the visitors held on with honours even again following the Boxing Day draw at Twerton Park .
