A week of highs and lows for the Academy culminated in a narrow loss to title favourites Southampton Sparsholt 1-0.

On Monday the Academy travelled to Brentford for a FCYA fixture against the Bee's. Hungerford started really well forcing a number of errors in the opponents half one of which resulted in Alex Fragata being brought down in the left channel. The free-kick was expertly whipped into the near post area where Luke Gray was on hand to head home. As the half progressed Brentford got on top and they had a goal disallowed just before half-time when the ball was adjudged to have gone out of play in the lead up to the goal. The games major incident came in the second half when a reckless tackle on substitute Chris Passey left the midfielder with a broken leg. The game was subsequently abandoned as the major concern was Passey's welfare. We are delighted to report that Chris is now home recovering after a successful operation to pin the broken tib and fib. Everyone at the club is fully behind Chris and will support him through his rehabilitation with the aim of getting back for pre-season.

On Tuesday we held our first trial of 2016 at Park House School. A fantastic turn-out of high quality players led to a really enjoyable experience for all involved - especially Gary, Bobby and Ledge who are already looking forward to working with this group!

On Wednesday the First XI travelled to Andover Town to face table toppers Southampton Sparsholt with a starting eleven made up of 8 first year players. Hungerford had Saints on the ropes in the first-half with the hosts major threat coming from counter-attacks, however neither keeper was forced to make a save of any note. The deadlock was broken midway through the second-half when multiple errors in defence led to the ball being poked home at the back post following a cross from the left. Chances did fall to Charlie Knight but he failed to hit the target and Toby Bridges had a long range effort tipped around the post. As the game became stretched in the final stages Luke Gray was dismissed for a second booking but this didn't affect the result as in the end Hungerford fell just short. Testament to Hungerfords growing reputation at this level was how the opposition celebrated at full-time and the whole squad can take great credit from an outstanding performance.
