A Marvel Ekpiteta brace was enough for Hungerford to progress to the next round of the Berks and Bucks cup

. It was hardly an exceptional performance by any standard from Hungerford as Beaconsfield had their chances to cause a cup shock. However the hosts eventually got through. The first half was a dire affair and visiting attacker Anthony Mendy had the game’s first shot on target with a tame overhead kick just before 20 minutes had been played. He was to get a second bite at the cherry ten minutes later but shot wide from close range. Danilo Orsi-Dadomo was to get the hosts first shot on target on the 40th minute mark. Ravan Constable comfortably saved his shot.
The second half was a livelier showing but hardly a blockbuster. Mendy had his third chance of the game with his jinking run setting up an opening on Charlie McCready’s goal but he blazed over when he pulled the trigger. Then with half an hour remaining the first goal came. You wouldn’t have been surprised if you thought the visitors had it but instead it fell to Hungerford. After Charlie Ten-Grotenhuis had a shot cleared off the line, the resulting corner caused havoc in the box with Beaconsfield failing to clear their lines and Ekpiteta having a simple tap in. It seemed to get the Crusaders going. Matt Jones had powerful shot well caught just a minute after the goal. However the team from tier 7 still didn’t give up and Mendy was the culprit of another chance slipping away. After three chances spurned he ran straight through on goal but again couldn’t score, McCready with an excellent save. The follow up shot was excellently blocked by goal scorer Ekpiteta. With the game fizzling out Darren Foxley pulled with a hamstring injury having to be replaced by young prospect Alex Fragata whose first contribution was to run at the defence and test constable at his near post. Ekpiteta made sure of cup progress when he turned in Orsi-Dadomo’s shot into the bottom corner.
