Hungerford were knocked out of the Berks and Bucks cup due to a second half double from Slough striker Ben Harris

Ben Harris scored a last minute strike from the half way line as Slough Town booked their place in the last four of the Berks and Bucks cup ahead of fellow national league south side Hungerford Town. It was a tight affair throughout but Slough deserved the victory as they seemed the stronger of the two sides as the match went on. However it was Hungerford who made the brighter start early on with midfielder and Captain Richie Whittingham orchestrating the midfield alongside the fellow hard working Tommy Ouldridge and Dan Bailey. The visitors started to gain more possession as time went on and had a good chance. The hosts failed to clear a corner and as the ball went back into the box Harris at the back stick couldn’t convert his header on target. Ouldridge then spectacularly put the ball in the top corner of the net with a sweet volley but it was ruled out for offside. Harris then missed a carbon copy of his first chance, heading over at the back stick this time from a free kick. Goalkeeper Charlie McCready was then called into action diving low to keep out Josh Jackman’s low effort. The Rebels then hit the post which caused havoc in the home penalty area before Jackman had a shot blocked and the danger was eventually cleared to keep the scores level at half time.

After the interval Slough controlled possession and the game as they looked for the first goal but found it difficult to break through the Crusaders back line. That was until Harris rifled a beauty into the back of the net with his left foot after finding space just outside the box. They searched for a crucial second goal but McCready was hardly called into action even if Hungerford found it hard to get into the opposition half. However the Crusaders were to find themselves an equaliser ten minutes from time when Whittingham played a delightful ball to Danilo Orsi-Dadomo who struck home into the corner of the net. As the game drew to a close Harris had the last laugh by lobbing keeper McCready from the half way line and putting Slough into the semi-finals. Hungerford now revert to league duties with a match away against Wealdstone on Saturday.
