In an even matched first half Hungerford started brightly and Darren Foxley’s strike curled just wide of the post. Thierry Audel forced Jacob Weaver into his first save with his powerful header following a corner. The hosts were then to open the scoring just past the half hour mark. A surging run down the right by Dan McNamara set up the chance for Bradely Goldberg to tuck home into the corner of the net past the stretching Weaver. Danilo Orsi- Dadomo skimmed the post before the strikers work rate led to the equaliser. After winning the ball back in the final third it led to Matt Jones jinking into the box and thumping it low past Dan Wilks at his near post for a deserved equaliser.
After a work man-like first half the Crusaders had to dig in deeper as United turned the screw and upped the tempo after the break. Nassim L’Ghoul tested Weaver at his near post before the former had to palm away a fizzling long shot. L’ghoul shot wide and Goldberg’s glance narrowly missed the target. Brendan Kiernan drove into the box but could only shoot straight at the goalkeeper. Foxley had a rare chance for the visitors on the counter but his shot was saved by Wilks. L’ghoul curled over before he finally found his goal, tapping home a Danny Mills flick on. Mills then added his name to the scoresheet in added time. However Hungerford were more than competitive throughout and despite some stand out performances Welling’s extra quality duly showed in the second half.
