Dale Grubb wins three points for the Seagulls

Weston Super Mare 2 Hungerford Town 1
A brace of goals by top-scorer Dayle Grubb earned the points for the Gulls as he said farewell to the Woodspring Stadium before he moves to Forest Green on January 1st.

It had been a close game in which we had chances to at least get something from the game until Grubb’s late penalty clinched the points for the Gulls. However, despite the defeat we remain just outside, but dangerously close to a relegation spot and there are some tough times ahead.
Tristan Plummer shot high and wide in an early Weston attack, but we failed to profit from the corner when Tom Meecham’s shot glanced off a defender for a corner and Louie Soares break down the wing came to nothing before Weston took the lead after 18 minutes. There appeared to be little danger until the ball reached Grubb in the penalty area but, although surrounded by defenders, he managed to turn quickly and slide the ball past Marcus Beauchamp.

We soon went close when Tom Meecham headed against the bar, and eventually levelled the scores after 38 minutes, when Meecham outpaced all the defenders down the left before putting over a low cross which Nicholas Bignall slammed in from close range.

We had the better of the play early in the second half and the dangerous Grubb often dropped back into midfield, but we failed to notch that vital second goal, Luke Purnell coming out well to narrow the angle when Bignall broke through, whose shot flew wide off the keeper.

A point would have been a reasonable outcome, especially with the table so close, but the home side were awarded a penalty after 78 minutes and Grubb gave Beauchamp no chance from the spot to give Weston all three points.

Team; Marcus Beauchamp, Rhys Tyler, Paul Stonehouse, Tom Meecham,James Rusby, Matt Williams, Ritchie Whittingham, James Clark, Anton Rodgers(Ian Herring),Tom Meechan, Nicholas Bignall(Stefan Brown)Louie Soares(Alex Fragata} Sub;Scott Rees.
