It was good to see James Rusby back in action for the whole 90 minutes, while Luke Hopper made it as far as the bench, but the news of a serious injury to Scott Rees at work cast a shadow over the game.
Territorially, there was little between the two sides, as the Rocks continued with their good start to the season, although they were helped by a controversial penalty, when Gareth Thomas appeared to win the ball cleanly in a good tackle, only for the referee to point to the spot to everyone’s surprise, but top-scorer Sam Higgins was not concerned and beat Lewis Ward’s despairing dive.
We had already taken the lead when we took advantage of a mix-up in the home defence and Nichlos Bignall tucked away Stefan Brown’s pass in the 15th minute and this undeserved equaliser brought the scores level after 32 minutes.
The two sides were evenly matched for the rest of the half, but we regained the lead only 4 minutes after the re-start when Ian Herring’s looping cross floated over the goal-keeper’s head and the linesman confirmed that he had clawed it back from behind the line.
The rest of the game saw the two sides evenly matched, but the visitors levelled again after 65 minutes when Max Cornhill netted with our defence distracted as Ian Herring went down as he attempted a tackle. Stefan Brown was unlucky towards the end seeing his header come back off the post, but neither side could create a clear opening thereafter and both had to be satisfied with a point
