We gained 3 invaluable points to keep us in the play-off battle, but had to fight hard against the Rebels, who put up a determined performance and had us hanging on near the end after we had netted an early goal.
Every game now presents a difficult task and there are still too many clubs in the running to allow anyone to relax. With a midweek trip to King’s Lynn to come next month probably the hardest of our tasks ahead, we break new ground on Saturday with a visit to Stratford Town , with Weymouth here to test us next Monday.
We were soon on the attack and Alan O’Brien was involved down the wing as we put the visitors under pressure, taking the lead after only 10 minutes when James Rusby got up to head O’Brien’s corner past
Mark Scott and we continued to look dangerous. Ian Herring was injured, and although he soon returned he was eventually replaced by Scott Rees. Paul Strudley pulled off a good save when he tipped over Lewis Putman’s dangerous cross, but we had the better of the play in the first half and deservedly went in at half-time with that narrow lead.
A dangerous cross from O’Brien was flicked just over by Stefan Brown and O’Brien was unlucky when he fired over the top corner after a good break down the left, but as long as there was only a goal in it, the visitors were still well in the game and they gained in confidence as they began to put us under pressure. We gave the ball away all too often as the Rebels harried us and forced us back but we held on, even when even the goalkeeper came up for a corner in injury time and the final whistle was something of a relief.
