This was another professional performance and a deserved win in a game full of incidents. Having travelled to Bideford on Saturday and recorded a magnificent 5-0 win. The visitors faced another long journey, even if it was rather less daunting than the trip to Devon . As it turned out, we were the better side and it was not until the closing minutes that the result was in any doubt, when King’s Lynn pulled a goal back and we were content to defend our lead and play out time.
We had the better of the early play without looking particularly dangerous, although Jon Boardman headed wide from a James Clark free-kick, but when Matt Day came up and fired in another dangerous free-kick, Stefan Brown reacted quickest and drove the ball past Alexander Street after only 16 minutes to set up our best spell of the game. It was from another free-kick, only 8 minutes later, that we made it 2-0. This time, James Clark took the kick from wide on the left and Nat Jarvis got on the end of the cross to head home.
There was a delay just before half-time when referee Alex Fisher pulled up with a muscle injury and assistant Paula Wyatt took the whistle, with local referee Charlie Bullock on the line. After treatment Mr. Fisher resumed on the line for the second half and there were no further dramas, although the stand-in referee had a difficult job dealing with a number of niggly incidents.
Jacek Zielonka headed straight at Paul Strudley from a Liam Hurst cross as King’s Lynn threw more men forward in an attempt to save the game, but Stefan Brown had chances to increase our lead without being able to apply the finishing touch and, with 6 minutes to go, Lee Stevenson made it 2-1, but we adopted a conservative approach and the visitors were unable to create another chance as we pulled off another good win.
