This was a miserable and murky day with heavy rain during much of the game, the floodlights were on from the start and, not surprisingly, the players found it difficult to cope with the conditions, and there were plenty of misplaced passes and missed chances as well. Although we had more of the play and also the best chances, Histon’s valiant defenders must have been gutted to concede the only goal of the game deep in injury time as Rhys Tyler scrambled the ball in off a defender to claim the points.
Garyn Preen again looked our most likely scorer and soon brought a good save from Denzel Gerrar in the Histon goal, who went on to perform heroics between the posts. The visitors also had their moments and Paul Strudley brought off a good save from a Ryan Auger free-kick, but was not troubled by a weak shot from the lively Josh Oyinsan, but conditions got even worse as half-time approached.
We gained several corners early in the second half, but Gerrar proved equal to everything we could produce and Paul Strudley had to be at his best to keep out a shot from Jordan Nicholson as the visitors counter-attacked
We continued to have more of the play but that final pass or shot often went astray and Gerrar proved unbeatable when we did get a shot on target. Rogan McGeurge was lucky to get way with a booking for a dreadful tackle on Preen, but Harry Goodger also went in the book for a challenge on Gerrar after the keeper had spilled the ball, but, with the game in the 4th.minute of injury time, another attack ended with a melee in the Histon goalmouth where Tyler forced the ball over the line off a defender for the winner.
