This was our first-ever trip to Bedworth, a friendly and hospitable club just outside Coventry . There, we overcame any pre-conceived fears about the 3G pitch, scored early in each half, and kept a clean sheet to wrap up the points on a thoroughly enjoyable and successful day, climbing into the top half of the league after a disappointing start.
We were soon on the attack and took the lead after only 8 minutes, Nat Jarvis winning the ball and turning it inside for Rhys Tyler to slot the ball home . Diak John appeared to be fouled, but the home side were awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position, but when it was headed out, Alex Naughton fired well over the bar. We should have doubled the lead when Alan O’Brien found Nat Jarvis only 6 yards out, but he hit the underside of the bar with a fierce shot and the home side scrambled the ball away. There was another dangerous moment when goalkeeper Denham Hinds dropped the ball, but somehow the danger was cleared as the ball bobbled about in front of goal.
A single goal lead at the interval was poor reward, but we made it 2-0 within 6 minutes of the restart when Jon Boardman headed on James Rusby’s throw and Matt day volleyed past the stranded goalkeeper. Rhys Tyler broke through but played the ball wide when he had a shooting chance, and Bedworth earned a corner but Nathan Haines’ flag-kick was cleared off the line, whilst a dangerous long ball out of the Bedworth defence was headed back to Paul Strudley and we were able to comfortably play out time and pick up all 3 points with Strudley yet to concede a goal.
