A point each was about as much as each side deserved in this scrappy game at the Abbey Stadium, but we again lost the plot after going two goals ahead, and still await our first league win of the season.
We started well and were a goal up in the 9th. minute when Kelvin Bossman gained possession and drove home a marvelous volley from just inside the penalty area, but the home side came back well and Dan Lincoln had to pull off a point-blank save to deny Luke Shearer and Robbie Bunn shot over when well placed. We continued to build up some good attacks, although Scott Rees needed several bouts of treatment and eventually limped off but Nat Jarvis did well to keep control and turn the ball inside for Bossman to make it 2-0 from close in after 34 minutes.
We gave away a bad goal when George Carline was unchallenged as he headed in from a corner in the 41st. minute and Redditch levelled the scores right on half-time through Jamie Osborne.
The referee earned few plaudits by issuing 3 or 4 yellow cards to both sides, including a second yellow for Jon Boardman which led to his sending-off, although there was hardly a bad tackle throughout.
There was a strange incident when Matt Day was tackled as he was taking a free-kick, but although the kick was retaken this did not apparently warrant a card. Lincoln punched out a free-kick but Troy Baker shot wide from the rebound, and Mark Draycott failed to get in a clean shot when he had a half-chance following a free-kick and the two sides remain locked together in the lower reaches of the table..
