Another goalless draw does not sound particularly exciting, but this was an absorbing game between two sides who cancelled each other out so that there were few, if any goal-scoring chances. Three of the last five meetings between the two sides have ended with the score-sheet blank, so this result was predictable right from the start, and both sides will probably be satisfied with the outcome.
Alan O’Brien created two early attacks, but Nick Hutchins saved well after an early fumble, whilst Richard Gillespie shot straight at Paul Strudley, There was a half-chance when Hutchins came out and failed to hold on to the ball, but when the shot came in Lewis Lindsay was in position to clear the danger.
A Mark Draycott shot was well off target, but we had a problem right on halftime when Nat Jarvis fell and dislocated his finger and was taken to hospital to have it dealt with, Stefan Brown coming on in his place.
Isaac Osei-Tutu came on for O’Brien early in the second half and his pace and directness appeared to give us our best chance of a goal, a powerful attack down the left ended when he shot low at the goalkeeper as the time gradually drifted away, although Brown was obviously struggling near the end, but we had already used all three subs and he had to carry on until the end.
It was good to see Charlie Austin socializing with the players in the clubhouse after, he had obviously played with a number of the present Poole players before he moved onwards and upwards to league football, but the Hungerford players with whom he played have all moved on.
