It was a narrow defeat for the battle-weary Crusaders at Hanwell Town

It was an unchanged side for Hungerford's final away game of the 23/24 season. This was probably due to the lack of options and the ever growing injury list Danny Robinson has faced during recent weeks

It was a slow start the the game with the home side looking determined not to give anything away. The scrappiness and the stop start flow certainly suited the home side as despite Hungerford having the majority off possession the struggled to create and real chances

Joe Shepherd had Hungerford's first shot in anger in the 25th minute but this was gobbled up into the hands of Hanwell keeper Sam Beasant.
A couple of minutes later Hungerford produced their best chance of the half and ultimately the game. Conor McDonagh swung in a delicious cross from the right hand side that found Fabio Lopes in the six yard box he beat Beasant to the ball but it bounced agonizingly wide off Lopes. Perhaps a role reversal of the provider and recipient may have produced the goal the game badly needed

At the start of the second half Hanwell scored the only goal of the game. After a cross from Issac Olorunfemi, Josh Oyinsan put the ball into the path of Jenson Wright who produced a superb finish past Ryan Clarke, a really moment of quality from a game lacking in it. They almost made it two moments later but Babs Jarra was on hand to stamp out the chance.

With something to cling onto Hanwell shut up shop and frustrated Hungerford who looked like a team with 50 odd games in the legs. Some interesting tactics added into the mix from the home side really helping to stop any game flow. There were some nearly moments for Hungerford, Matt Berry-Hargreaves with a through ball that almost found Brad Hooper's late run into the box and Elis Watts with a strike that deflected over. None of these however really tested Beasant.

There were 10 minutes added on at the end it could probably easily have been doubled but even with Berry-Hargreaves now second striker and Ryan Clarke coming up for set pieces that elusive goal was not found

One last dance to go as the Gaffer put it against Basingstoke at home next week
