In a week where he’d signed a new contract, Elis Watts opened the scoring for Hungerford after only 2 minutes. It was a 30 yard free kick by Watts that beat Sam Beasant in Hanwell’s goal and went in off the post. The home side had their tails up and probably should have added more goals early in the half and would have done but for some solid defending from Dwayne Duncan.
Hanwell put the ball in the Hungerford net on the half hour from Calum Duffy but it was righty ruled out for offside. There was then a lengthy stoppage for an injury to Ryan Clarke, after a collision that could have been prevented by an earlier offside flag by the official. The half ended with a Hanwell penalty appeal when Oguntayo went down too easily in the box but simply Medford-Smith was too strong for him.
10 minutes into the second half Hanwell were awarded a penalty with a foul on Oguntayo by Jack Wright which Sam Evans converted. it was a soft penalty with debate about whether or not it was in the area. It took another great strike from Conor McDonagh for Hungerford to retake the lead on 75 mins; his curling finish from outside the box gave Beasant no chance.
As it looked like the three points were secure for Hungerford deep in injury time Evans finished in the box for his second of the match. There was still time for Great Evans to fire a shot just wide with the last kick of the match Heartbreak for Hungerford but perhaps a fair reflection on the match.
