A rather sparse crowd on another chilly evening saw two clubs in the play-off battle fighting hard, but more afraid of losing than hoping to win, so that a goalless draw was a predictable result right from the start.
The point keeps us in 5th.position with St.Neots 7th, three points, behind but with a game in hand, and our trip to the Cambridgeshire side next month may prove vital, although our advantage in goal difference may prove to be a significant benefit.
We may have been unlucky near the end when we hit the bar and had a shot cleared off the line, but overall neither side can complain about the result, with the other play-off contenders no doubt pleased to see both sides drop 2 points in what is an enthralling fight for promotion. and our trip to Hitchin on Saturday, followed by the visit of Reddtch the following week are crucial games.
St.Neots leading scorer Drew Roberts headed wide from an early corner and when Alan O’Brien sent the overlapping Diak John free on the left, he shot well over. Gay Horgan did well to stop tLewis Hilliatrd, but James Pilling headed wide and Matt Day was also off target when he headed in from a corner.. At the other nd, Paul Strudley made a great save at the foot of the post in a strong St.Neosts attack.
It had been as close first half, but with the slope in our favour after the interval we pushed forward and Nathan Frater was booked after twice bringing down O’Brien, Day also going in the book. We brought on all three subs but still could not find a way through, a shot from Sam Wilson glanced off the top of the bar and a n O’Brien corner was cleared off the line as we tried hard to get that vital goal, but the visitors’ defence held firm and the sides had to be satisfied with a point apiece.
