After losing our unbeaten home record to Dorchester , we faced a run of four consecutive games against clubs with play-off aspirations, but overcame the first hurdle and a potential banana-skin at Dunstable
as the team responded in the best way possible, with a devastating attacking display which blew away the opposition.
Dunstable were promoted as champions of Division 1 Central and have a brand new facility which is still being developed and thus lacks a homely atmosphere, while the lack of a car park makes access difficult for spectators, although this is being rectified
Overnight snow and frost made conditions difficult, but the home club had worked hard and the pitch was perfectly playable, whilst we “came out of the blocks” full of confidence, an early break down the wing by Alan O’Brien creating the chance for James Clark to open the scoring after only 9 minutes, and Mark Draycott had a couple of half-chances to increase the lead, but the home side were unlucky when Jamale McKenzie-Lowe hit the bar following a corner and the ball rebounded to safety. However, we looked the more dangerous side and made it 2-0 when Charlie Mpi scored from O’Brien’s cross after 39 minutes and then made the chance for Draycott to make it 3-0 before O’Brien scored a simply marvellous fourth goal all in the space of 5 minutes.
Christopher Marsh made it 4-1 midway through the second half, but Daycott soon made it 5-1 and although McKenzie-Lowe reduced the arrears again, Draycott completed his hat-trick with another splendid goal to complete a 6-2 win after 83 minutes.to finalise a convincing win.
