With only two away wins during the first three months of the season, all the talk was about our poor away record, but with this fourth successive win on the road, everything has turned around and we are now in 6th place, just outside the play-offs, with 4 clubs (ourselves included) on 48 points, and Corby the new leaders. However, with 3rd place Weymouth being the visitors tomorrow (Saturday) and the likelihood of Hereford’s record being expunged, the league table could change dramatically in the near future and there are exciting times ahead. The first half at Holloways Park was fairly even with both sides having good goal attempts. The nearest was from James Dobson, who hit the corner of the post and cross-bar for the home side, whilst James Clark and Harry Goodger went near for us. In injury-time at the end of the half, a Dobson corner was converted by Adrian Sear to give the home side the lead, a bad time to concede a goal.
Within 3 minutes of the re-start, however, the scores were level when Alan O’Brien ran on to a through pass to score a splendid goal with a hard low shot which gave the keeper no chance. We now began to look the better side, but Paul Strudley had to pull off a good save from Sear to maintain the lead, whilst at the other end Ryan Parsons cleared off the line with his keeper beaten. We continued to do most of the attacking, however and eventually took the lead after 83 minutes when O’Brien repeated his earlier effort with another rasping drive to give us the lead which we never looked like losing.
It had been an excellent performance and credit is due to Booby and the players for this fine start to the New Year.
