After taking the lead when the game was only 2 minutes old, we always had the edge and, although the home side had a couple of half-chances in quick counter-attacks, a second goal early in the second half was enough to give us victory in the first-ever meeting between the two clubs. We can only hope that The Bulls overcome their financial problems and do not fall by the wayside.
We were soon on the attack and gained an early corner which was floated in by Josh Parsons for Jon Boardman (pictured) to head home after only 2 minutes. We continued to attack, Mark Draycott brought a good save from the Hereford keeper and Lee Smith shot wide, but despite having most of the play we were unable to increase our lead and the home side created a couple of chances from quick counter-attacks when our attacks broke down.
Deapite our dominance a single goal was not enough to ensure victory, but after 55 minutes Parsons and Bobes-Gilroy clashed just outside the penalty area, the Hereford midfieder shoved Parsons in the face and was sent off, for James Pilling to fire his free-kick past the wall and leave the goalkeeper helpless. A free-kick from Obi Onyeike brought a good save from Paul Strudley but otherwise, the Bulls created few chances and we were able to coast through to earn the points which took us back to fifth in the table, but it is vey tight and some clubs have games in hand which could take them back above us.
