After only one point from our last four games, it was great to record a hard-fought victory over Truro , with Mark Draycott’s 100th. goal for the club marking a marvelous milestone, Histon’s remarkable win at Dunstable raising us to 7th. place.
The visitors again proved tough opponents and our attacks broke down all too easily, Charlie Mpi being easily held up by the visitors defence who took no prisoners when we did begin to put them under pressure. Diak John was scythed down and the visitors soon picked up a couple of yellow cards, and when Jake Ash brought down Ian Herring, he was sent off for his second yellow card. A long throw from Matt Day was cleared and when Lee Smith found Draycott after a good cross, he headed over the bar.
Playing up the slope in the second half, we found it difficult, even against 10 men. Both sides made substitutions in an attempt to get control and Alan O;Brien, one of our subs, began to torment the home defence with his pace. He switched to the right and eventually gave us the lead in the 73rd.. minute when his in-swinging corner beat everyone and went in off the far post. The visitors still looked dangerous with quick counter-attacks, but we had more and more of the play without increasing our precarious lead. A Draycott header was saved and Kyle Moore managed to deflect Smith’s shot wide off his body, until that vital second goal, Draycott’s century, made it safe in the 84th. minute. Moore could only half-stop Harry Goodger’s shot, and Draycott reacted quickly to retrieve the ball and knock it into the empty net from close range. from close range,
