There were few exciting moments in a rather dull game at Hardenhuish Park, a Harry Goodger (pictured) goal just before half-time dividing the two sides, with neither keeper often really troubled and the shots on target were few and far between.
Chippenham wasted an early corner when James Guthrie’s flag-kick was far too long and went harmlessly for a goal-kick, and when Diak John and Josh Parsons built up an attack down the left, Kent Kauppinen was quickly off his line to cut out the cross. Harry Goodger headed well over in a quick attack and then headed weakly at the keeper with another half-chance We took the led in the 41st. minute when Goodger got clear and Kaupinen could only get a hand to his shot to deflect it slowly goalwards and over the line.
There were few chances to either side in a drab second half, a couple of searing runs down the wing from full-back Jon Beeden, one of which ended with a fierce shot which skimmed of the top of the bar, but otherwise Paul Strudley did not have a direct shot to save.
Near the end Kauppinen came forward to adopt a sweeper role and was nearly caught out when he had to chase back to clear a back-pass off the line. The points were invaluable however and see us up into the top half of the league.
