We continued our pre-season programme on a chilly evening, with a strange combination of bright sunshine and heavy rain during the first half, with honours ending even again after a dramatic start to the game.
There was less than a minute on the clock when Matt Day’s rash challenge earned the visitors a penalty which saw us a goal down before most of the players had touched the ball, but Mark Draycott’s header levelled the scores after 16 minutes and a great cross-shot from James Clark gave us a 2-1 lead 10 minutes later.
Meanwhile we had a heavy storm at the same time that the sun sank low in the west and made spectating difficult from the main stand, whilst that chilly wind made it uncomfortable for us all.
The second half was evenly matched with neither side being able to find he net, despite a number of chances, but with just over 10 minutes left, our defence was split wide open by a crossfield ball which gave the visitors the easiest of chances to level the scores.
The real thing starts with a trip to Paulton Rovers on August 8th. and it will be good to start the season after what seems to have been an endless prologue.
