With two crucial league matches to complete our play-off battle, not surprisingly we did not risk fielding our full first team, but a team which included no less than 7 Academy players produced a remarkable second-half performance to come back from two goals down and reach the Basingstoke Senior Cup Final, although the visitors did not help their own cause by ending the game with only 9 men.
Although we had the advantage of the slope and created a number of chances, a goal from Ben Nicholls and a splendid free-kick from Joe Harris gave the visitors a two-goal lead at half-time, but it was a different story after the interval when, after we had a goal ruled out for offside, Ben Vyne was sent off and the game was turned on its head when Chris Passey reduced the arrears after 64 minutes and Connor Lynch equalized almost immediately.
The momentum was now with us and Harry Goodger, one of the few first-team squad players in the team, gave us the lead after 81 minutes. Another sending off for the visitors, followed by Lynch scoring again and then completing his hat-trick from the penalty spot brought this amazing game to a close.
