Richie Bourne, manager of Evo-Stik League Southern Division One South & West club Abingdon United, says he`s.....

....delighted centre forward Aaron Woodley is staying put.

Woodley turned down an offer from high-flying league rivals Hungerford Town, and Bourne said: “Aaron`s a very good player one we certainly don`t want to lose having only recently signed him from Banbury United.

“I've said to him if he works hard here and scores goals then the rest will take care of itself as I know his ambitions are to play at the highest level he can get to.

“What`s pleasing for us as a club is he`s turned down a team that are top of the league, so it shows it`s not always about money.

“I have to say though I'm very disappointed in how Hungerford Town have conducted themselves in the approach of Aaron. To ring my player directly before the seven-day approach was up was unprofessional and against the rules of the league.

“We had already told them that we wouldn't waive the seven-day so to contact Aaron before the seven days was up just shows a lack of respect against our club.

“I know the chairman isn't happy, and I'm sure will be in contact with them. As for us now at least we can move on knowing Aaron is staying and concentrate on improving what`s been a great start to the season.”
