Don't judge a book by it's cover

'Don't judge a book by it's cover' they say. Well this Weekends fixture away to Whitehawk will be very much a case of that. With Whitehawk sat bottom of the league without a win in 13 games it would be easy to write them off, but with the appointment of Steve King and numerous new players this may be a very different game.

King took his new side to Bobby Wilkinson's Wealdstone last week and where very unfortunate to come away with nothing, after a very dubious penalty decision and a late Abobaker Eisa goal gave Wealdstone all three points.

Similarly, Hungerford were unlucky to only gain a point vs East Thurrock on Saturday, after a great tackle from Thomas being penalised by the referee, who awarded the penalty allowing East Thurrock to get back on level terms, later on he ignored the request from Boardman to make a substitution and allowed East Thurrock to take a throw in which led to their second equaliser and denying Hungerford of all three points.

Whitehawk did get a draw under King's first game at home to high flying St Albans city drawing 1-1 after Papa Gueye's opener was cancelled out by St Albans Kieran Monlouis leveller.

Whitehawk have made numerous new signings including, 33 year old Marvin Elliot, having had vast experience of the Football League with the likes of Bristol City, Millwall and most recently Crawley Town. Joining Elliott in the squad are Kodi Lyons-Foster, who joins on a 28-day loan deal from Aldershot Town, and Nassim L’Ghoul, who has joined from St. Neots Town until January.

Lyons-Foster joins on the back of making a handful of appearances for the Shots in the National League after a successful trial in the summer. That came after the 20-year old joined Bristol City having been released by Aston Villa.

L’Ghoul joins the Hawks from EvoStik Southern Premier side St. Neots Town on loan until January 2. The 20-year old lists French side FC Lyon and the Nike Academy as previous clubs and is an exciting, pacey talent. The winger is comfortable on either flank in addition to playing more centrally. Liam Gordon’s loan from Dagenham & Redbridge has been extended further to November 4. Another player to join Whitehawk is pacey winger Brandon Scott from Cray Wanderers.

Scott has previously played for Southend and Bristol Rovers, as well as featuring in Jamie Vardy’s V9 Academy which helps to discover and promote talented non-league footballers and was also recently on trial at Crystal Palace. New 6'10" Goalkeeper Simon Jorgensen has also joined the team.

Richie Whittingham has come across to the Crusaders on a months initial loan from Whitehawk and gave a spirited performance when coming on as a sub last week, but will be unavailable for selection for a return to his contracted club under Whitehawk's instructions.

Boardman and Herring are also set to announce a new striker to their ranks and more will follow shortly.
