No Pressure on Evesham

There is no pressure on Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division club Evesham United as they travel to higher-graded opposition in the FA Cup on Saturday, according to manager Paul West.

The Robins travel to Blue Square Bet North side Eastwood Town in the Second Qualifying Round.

Like United, the Nottinghamshire side have struggled so far this season. They are currently nineteenth in the table and joint player-manager Craig Armstrong resigned earlier this month.

But West insists his squad go into the clash against the Badgers as cup underdogs.

Evesham suffered their seventh defeat of their league campaign, crashing 2-1 at Chesham United.

Lewis Pountney equalised for Evesham before they fell to an 86th minute winner.

Defender Steve Luckett (groin) is “unlikely” to play on Saturday, with midfielder Gary Walker (knee) are both injury doubts, but goalkeeper Nathan Vaughan (finger) returns.

West said: “It’s a game that’s winnable for us.

“We won’t go there with any fear. We will try to get ourselves in the hat for the next round.

“It’s an opportunity to progress. Eastwood have not had a good start to their league season, either.

“We’ve had good experiences in the cup over the years. There is no pressure on us.

“It’s the FA Cup. The pressure is on them, like it was for us against Rocester in the last round. We’re looking for a cup upset.”

Speaking on Saturday’s defeat to Chesham, West added: “We were disappointed not to win the game.

“Our biggest Achilles heel at the moment is not converting chances when we are on top in matches.

“All we can do is keep working hard and get that bit if lady luck.”
